Exergames on FoxTV Arizona
Monday night I was featured in a news segment reported by Keith Yaskin from Fox10 News. The segment was about video games and exercise – was it a legitimate form of physical activity? It basically answered the question most consumers want to know – “Can you lose weight by playing video games?”
I had the opportunity to play a few rounds of tennis on the Nintendo Wii with Keith (which I let him win ONLY because I thought it would be nice to give him the chance to feel victorious). I also demonstrated the ‘workout mode’ in the game Dance Dance Revolution, as well as, feature a produce called Gamercize.
Below is a recording of the segment that aired on TV (sorry for the poor quality… I was rushed for time to put it up. For a clean version, go here) Enjoy!
I hope this media only adds to the growing exposure exergaming continues to get. I imaging it helps people recognize this is not just a trend – but sign of what’s to come in the world of fitness.

Hair looks great, but what’s with the shoes? Does rrodrigo like ‘em? I enjoyed this. See, you do what you love and hope others get excited about it. I wouldn’t be headed over to Walk Tracker now if it weren’t for you.

I haven’t even finished my first cup of coffee and I’m wired! Great piece, Biray. I’m not much for TV or anything that is remotely related (except DVRing episodes of Dora and Little Einsteins). However, I’m going to educate myself on the gaming to pass on to my clients. Thanks for the post. BTW, loved your Fishy food w/ quail eggs yesterday.

Biray, That’s awesome! You are a star. I’m with Dev on the shoes though. lol. That was a great segment too. I want a Wii now.

rrodrigo was to busy LHAO at all the butt shots to focus on the shoes! LOL. However, I did notice those sandals didn’t exactly fit with the exercise moves.
Great job…and way to get out there.

OMG!! I can’t believe I’m getting so much slack for my shoes! LOL. For the record, when the Surgeon General said to increase daily doses of physical actvity, he didn’t say anything about wearing sneakers. In fact, the point of his message was about incorporating physical activity anytime during the day (which means you coud be wearing your daily attire).
I’d almost go so far as to argue that if I *were* more appropriately dressed (aka wearing fitness outfit, running shoes, etc) that I’d be defeating the point of exergaming… These games encourage people, who may never identify with the gym/health club culture, to be excited about being physically active. Ever thought about the fact that perhaps I avoided the athletic or personal trainer look on purpose? Maybe I wanted to disassociate this image (that is so commonly identified in the fitness arena) with exergames? Mmm….???
As far as my shoes… they were a very comfortable pair of Clarks, thank you very much!

Good to see the Chandler Hamilton Library program room in the background.
Thank you for posting this. I missed it when it was live.
